Great for an airport hotel
We had just arrived from the South Pacific and needed an overnight stay in LA before proceeding back to the east coast. This hotel was lovely, and felt very welcoming. We frequently stay at airport hotels at La Guardia and this was much, much better -- roomier room, restaurants, comfortable bed, etc. -- especially for the price. Restaurant food was generous but not gourmet-level.

LAX layovers
I LOVE this hotel. Great rooms, good shuttle service, excellent room service and downstairs dining room (although borderline overpriced... $20 basic breakfast?). At almost a $100/night-too bad they charge for internet, water in the room and parking - otherwise I'd give it a 5. Love the workout room.

Mediocre accommodations
The purpose of this trip was to visit friends and family for Christmas - stayed for 4 nights. The first night, there was some type of intermittent chirping sound just outside my door for most of the night. It sounded like it might be a low-battery warning for a smoke alarm, but when I checked, the only thing outside the door was a ceiling speaker. Also, when we tried to use the on-demand movie service on the television, the TV just froze up and had to be turned off to reset. I reported both issues to the front desk the next morning and they promised to send an engineer up to address the problems. The chirping sound went away on night 2 but the television issue was never resolved. It wasn't a major problem because I wasn't really there to watch TV, but if you pay for certain amenities, they should work. I would give this hotel 3 stars, at best.

If you like "Soul Food", check out Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles on Manchester & LaCienega. The surrounding area is somewhat run down and the parking is minimal but the food is terrific.

Sheraton Gateway @ LAX
Great value for money. Very large rooms, friendly staff. Room was very clean and housekeeping showed up twice during the day to make up the bed and replenish towels. Food at the Paparazzi is excellent, although is very expensive. You can find a similar quality of food and service for less money close by. Will definitely stay again

In LA for business and vacation
Stayed for one night. Walls are thin, I can hear my neighbor's conversation. Lots of people going in and out throughout the early morning. Good place to stay for one night before my flight. Otherwise find a place away from the airport. If you drive a car, then the value isn't as good since they charge $28/day for parking.
