Raffles in PP

This is a good choice if you want a quiet locale. It is old and has old acoustics in the halls and walls. Traffic noise in the rooms is minimal. AC is very good and dry in a very humid climate. It is very well maintained. Staff is attentive and tries their best to please you. Prices are exhorbitant.......they are 5 star prices.......no discounts. $7 coffee. $10 minimum for drinks. Plan on around $40-$80 minimum for two for a meal. Much more for dinner and even room service is going to be pricey......at least $20 on average. The welcoming drink was complimentary........nothing else so far as I know. The spa was very good but, of course, costs 4 times as much as an outside spa in town. Three friends of mine used it at approx $40 each and were happy with the salt scrub. I did not use the pool. I used the conceirge once with good results. I did not dine in the premium restuarant and hardly anyone else did either. It is an elegant looking room...... The food in general was good, not excellent. My test....maple syrup.....a true five star will have real maple syrup for use on breakfast confections like pancakes or waffles. This one did not.....it was grocery store sugar syrup with artificial maple flavoring. I did not use the hotel cars..... all Mercedes. I don't know what they cost to use as taxi's. If they were complimentary then that was never mentioned as a Hotel service. I did not notice them being used very much. TAK TAK's were used and are fun. The traffic is amazing but the drivers manage it with ease, driving in the wrong lanes, performing U turns with impunity, avoiding other cycles, tak tak's and cars with ease. I can recommend this hotel but I will not stay there again. Once is enough. There are probably better choices in town in terms of cost and services.

One of the world's Great Hotels

Superb. The best staff of any hotel I have visited, and I've visited some great ones. Entwined in Cambodia's 20th Century history, the place itself is an event.

What You Would Expect

The Raffles was a nice looking hotel with a pool to match. The thing about most pools in Cambodia is that the water in them is really hot due to the weather... so it's not really refreshing. The hotel was a really good value compared with similar hotels in other locations, but it wasn't mindblowingly stellar either. Some of the staff was just disinterested, but some were really great. I guess it was just fine... except for the air conditioning, which was awesome and a welcome reprieve from the concrete oven outside.

Raffles Phnom Penh -- May 2010

This was my second stay at the Raffles, and first for pleasure. When you first enter, the hotel's decor and ambiance make it feel as if you're traveling back in time to 1910. Friendly and professional staff, well-maintained rooms and beautiful grounds. One downside -- the food is mediocre and quite overpriced. Otherwise, this is the finest place to stay while in Phnom Penh.

Not Exactly Super Service

During our 2 week excursion to Southeast Asia, my boyfriend and I have stayed at four luxury hotels - Ana Mandara in Dalat, Vietnam; The Majestic in Saigon, Vietnam, Raffles Hotel Le Royal in Phnom Penh, Cambodia and Hotel de la Paix in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Although the Hotel Le Royal was gorgeous, I was least satisfied with it... Although we had an upgraded room, it was small and the television was rather small too. Unlike the other hotels, I felt like we were nickel and dimed with the service charges, fees for Internet and other various charges. I needed a swimsuit and happily purchased a Speedo from the spa, only to realize it was a poorly made knock-off when I later tried it on. The electrical converter provided by the hotel fried my BlackBerry's charger and no one in the hotel had anyway of finding me a new charger or alternative way to charge my phone although I had a connector for a computer. (I realized it was the converter when it subsequently fried their hot water pot.) We had the hotel arrange a ride to catch the bus to Siem Reap and the car they arranged was 40 minutes late - for a 3 minute drive! I was getting annoyed because I couldn't understand why they wouldn't simply allow us to take another car or even a tuk-tuk to the station; they just kept telling us the car was late, but on its way and the bus would wait for us. They insisted we wait for the pre-arranged car. In the meantime, I tried to use the Internet in the lobby but it was broken, so I was directed to the Business Office where the woman would not allow me to use the Internet because I had already checked out (it was 8:30 in the morning). I told her I only needed it for a moment, but she refused. The night before I used the business center since there is no wifi available in the rooms and my iPad only works with wifi. The gentleman in the business center disconnected my service abruptly after 30 minutes, although I had told him I wanted a full hour. Unfortunately, I was just about to finish booking a flight, and as luck would have it, by the time he reconnected me to the Internet, I was not able to book the same flight which cost me $44. These might seem like minor annoyances but I've wanted to stay at a Raffles hotel for years and the stubborness of the staff was unexpected and frustrating...

This hotel was not what I had

This hotel was not what I had expected from a world-famous chain of luxury hotels. The two rooms that I saw were in need of paint and general refreshment, and bathroom floors were dirty. The local newspaper came to the the door first morning but not thereafter. The restaurant of fine dining was good but atrociously overpriced, and the translation of the menu in English was of poor quality. I am not going back.

We had 2 deluxe rooms and the one occupied by our daughter was constantly cold and the hotel were unable to rectify the situation. Apart from this the staff were very friendly and helpful. We all three had stomache problems and eventually has to seek medical assistance in Siem Reap. The International Hospital advised that due to airborn pollution, "Tut tuts" should not be used by tourists whilst in Phnom Penn. Better advise on do's and don'ts by the hotel would be sensible - our onward visit to Raffles, Siem Reap (4 noghts) was totally spoilt, although it must be said that the management and staff of the hotel were simply splendid and more than helpful with our problems.

Good but Not Great Serrvice

Very nice hotel but not up to the service standard expected at a Raffles. Service at Raffles in Siem Reap was FAR superior. Spa is excellent and great value. Food quality was excellent, especially at French restaurant. Examples of inferior service: Rooms not cleaned until after 2pm; fruit in room was not replenished; slow service at breakfast; heavy smoking in the Elephnat bar; personal attention not at the level of Raffles Siem Reap.
